India’s smartphone shipments declined 7% YoY as channels as well as OEMs are focusing on getting rid of existing inventory built up. Though the footfall increased in retail and sell out increased due to rise in demand driven by republic day sale hosted across channels, sell in remained low due to high inventory situation.
Premiumization trend continued as the segment grew 78% YoY in Jan 2023 driven by various financing schemes available across channels and lucrative offers from Apple and Samsung. Ultra-premium segment (> $650) grows by 101% YoY in Jan 2023 driven by premium models of Apple and Samsung.
Online share increased in Jan 2023 to 46% after declining for 3 consecutive months. However, offline channel remains the dominant channel driven by growth of premium segment and expansion or brands like Apple, OnePlus in offline.
